"a fly line runs through it" - pretty clever huh? ok, clever
enough. I'm a fly fisherman and a fly tyer. I thought it would be nice
to have a place to talk about that - to share that with those who may
be interested. so here it is - the angler's quarter. fishing stories,
fly patterns, photos, and links to other sites are among what you'll find
here - have fun!

OK, I know it says "fishing journal" up there but since it's my blog, I'll take the latitude to show off my first Quail - from this past Winter. I shot it on my parent's property in Whitley County, Kentucky - within sight of their house. They have a resident covey of at least 24. I was by myself at the end of a morning's hunting, I stomped through a briary thicket area and 3 flew - I focused in on this one, obviously. I didn't know if I had killed it or not. I had pegged where it would have fallen and after everything calmed down, I walked over and shuffled around in the leaves and happened to see the wing. My first Quail. I was excited to take it back to the house and show my Dad. I wanted to have a classic gun over the arm with bird photo - so there it is. And just for detail's sake, we jump-shoot (no dogs) and the gun is a Baretta 12 guage over/under.
Here's a closer shot of the bird. Beautiful bird - amazing camouflage job God did on these babies. The meat is still in my freezer - it will be eaten. I won't kill anything I won't eat. I think that's a good ethic. And those fine feathers are in a ziplock bag to be used in tying flies - I'll show you one when I get around to it. Yeah! There's the fly fishing connection.
